It was a Friday and a national holiday, so we decided to make the most of the long weekend with another family bike trip. Our destination: Nomenj to lake Bohinj - a quick 10-minute drive by car, but the bike ride itself is the real treat. If you park near the Grmečica waterfall and hop on your bike, you’re in for a gorgeous greenbelt ride all the way to the lake.
The route follows the river stream, offering those perfect little views that make you truly appreciate the nature around you. We pedaled along the river and fields until we reached Bohinjska Bistrica, where a road closure rerouted us via the bus station. From there, we continued along the road to Camp Danica. After that, it’s back to the greenbelt alongside the river toward Stara Fužina—every turn feels like a postcard.
Of course, we had to stop for a snack. We dropped down to the bridge at Ribičev Laz and treated ourselves to some pizza at Pod Skalco—fuel for the next short leg of the journey! Finally, we made it to Camp Bohinj in Ukanc, where we spent a few blissful hours swimming, lounging, and soaking up the sun.
By the time we headed back, everyone was happily tired and already talking about our next adventure. There’s something magical about these simple bike trips—beautiful scenery, fresh air, and quality family time all rolled into one.
P.S. I need to sort out my Strava—data on my phone wasn’t accurate this time. I’m just sharing the map here so you have a reference.
